Dill is a quick growing annual herb with soft feathery leaves and umbels of very attractive yellow flowers(much loved by beneficial insects) atop of long straight stalks.
It is very similar to Fennel and they can easily hybridise so are not recommended to grow together.
This herb is used for its anise flavoured leaves and seeds and is a very popular culinary herb.
It requires little maintenance and is tolerant of most conditions.
Tetra is a high quality variety developed especially for its lush dark green foliage which grows bushier and more vigorously than ordinary dill and is slow to bolt.
Used as a companion plant to deter aphids.
Good Companions; Cabbage, Lettuce, Onions, Sweetcorn and Cucumbers.
Bad Companions; Tomatoes(attracts tomato horn worm), Carrots, Caraway Lavender and Fennel.
Sow Dill direct as it does not like to be transplanted.
Sow 1cm(½ in) deep a few seeds every 15-20cm and in rows 30cm apart from March - July.
Thin to the strongest seedling and sow successionally to keep a supply throughout the season.
You can also try growing dill in large pots/containers all year round indoors.
Start to harvest leaves once the plant is about 30cm tall and pinch out flowers to keep leaf production going longer.
OUR SEEDS ARE SPECIALLY SELECTED FOR UK CONDITIONS AND SOURCED FROM ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE, SOIL ASSOCIATED ORGANIC GROWERS.
